Dr. Efstratios Theodossiou is an Astrophysicist and Associate Professor of History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Physical Sciences at the University of Athens (School of Physics, Department of Astronomy-Astrophysics and Mechanics). In pension from December 28, 2013.

His scientific interests included History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Physical Sciences and Popularisation of Astronomy and Sciences. His other research interests include Observational Astronomy and Astrophysics, satellite spectrophotometry of Be stars and variable stars.

He is member of IAU Commission 41.

Dr. Efstratios Theodossiou (Father's Name: Theodore) is an astrophysicist and Associate Professor of History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Physical Sciences at the University of Athens (since 2004). He was born in Athens, Greece on the 12th of March, 1949. He got his B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessalonica, Greece (1972) and his Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the Physics Department of the University of Athens, Greece (1983).
He has worked as Laboratory Assistant, Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Athens. His scientific interests include History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Physical Sciences, Observational Astronomy and Astrophysics, Satellite Spectrophotometry of Be and Variable stars. He has published 92 scientific papers in refereed journals (17 in Astrophysics and 75 in History and Philosophy of Astronomy), 27 papers in the British Sundial Society Bulletin (BSSB) in Compendium, the Journal of the North American Sundial Society (NASS) and in  the Catalan/Spanish La Busca de Paper; 203 papers in Conference Proceedings in Greece and abroad (80 in Astrophysics and 123 in History and Philosophy of Astronomy).

His books: a) Cosmology of tthe Mind - An introduction in Cosmology (2003) was awarded by the "Aronis' Prize" of the University of Athens (23 December, 2004) and b) At the Years of Byzantium-The Byzantine scientists, physicians, physicists and astronomers (2010), was awarded by the "Koscorozis; Prize" of the University of Athens (May, 2013). Also, he has written six Teaching University books and notebooks and more than 275 scientific articles in newspapers and magazines.
He has presented approximately 530  talks in various subjects on Astrophysics, Astronomy and History of Astronomy. For the last four years, in association with the Assistant Professor E. Danezis, he has been creator, presenter and scientific supervisor of the scientific television series "The Universe I Loved", which already counts 110 episodes, "The 12 months" (12 episodes) and "How I see the world" (16 episodes).
He has been awarded the "Hellenic-American University prize" in the 1st International Science Film Festival, for this television series.
He has been awarded by the Hellenic Physicists Society and by the Cyprian Union of Physicists for all of his scientific and educational activities. He is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU, Commission No. 41), Founding member of the Hellenic Astronomical Society (Hel.A.S). Μember of the Hellenic Physicists Society, and from 2004 he is elected to its governing board. From 2011 till now he is President of the Hellenic Physicists Society. Member of the Society of "Preserving Language Heritage" and the Society of "Historical Studies of Ancient Greek Mathematics". He has been elected to the governing board of Hel.A.S.; he served as Treasurer (from 2002 to 2006), but from the end of 2012 is an ex-member of Hel.A.S. (personal choice).
He is married to Ekaterini Yfantis and they have two married daughters.
